Symbian Jadi Open Source

T&t - Hot News: Menurut Symbian, software luar biasa yang digunakan banyak ponsel-ponsel pintar di dunia itu akan segera ‘open source’, gratis untuk semua orang yang ingin menggunakannya.

Symbian Foundation dibentuk tahun 2008 setelah Nokia Corp, pembuat ponsel symbian terbesar itu membeli konsorsium yang membuat software tersebut. Nokia memutuskan untuk dijadikan ‘open source’ agar symbian dapat lebih populer dengan pabrikan lain, ini benar-benar langkah yang sangat jarang sekali dilakukan di dunia teknologi.

Lee Williams, direktur eksekutif foundation yang berbasis di London ini berkata, “open source”ini artinya dari source code, atau blueprint untuk software, semua gratis dan dapat digunakan oleh semua orang.

Software Symbian ini sudah di gunakan lebih dari 330 juta ponsel di seluruh dunia. Ini adalah tantangan baru dalam kompetisi di arena smart phone dari Apple Inc.’s iPhone dan Google Inc.’s sistem Android. Android ini juga gratis dan dapat digunakan secara bebas oleh siapa saja.

Versi open-source dari software symbian ini dikenal dengan Symbian 3, dan menggantikan versi terdahulunya seperti Series 60 dan Series 40.
